interesting how the f'nch word for yobs, "racquaïlle (phonetic guess)", can cause so many problems. apparently it all depends who's saying it. if you're white, there's an understanding that you mean not-whites, and if you're not white it just means "yobs". in any case, if you're called nicolas it doesn't really matter what you say, as journalists will be able to find a quote from a guy called jean-marie saying the same thing and then you can whip up a cartoon of a small man carrying a truncheon or handcuffs or goose-stepping or a combination montage assuring your compatriots and neocompatriots that they can relax: the man on the right is the bogeyman and cannot be elected. this is quite amusing for british people as the word "yobs" inspires images of young cream fac'd loons wearing doc martens and hindu tattoos putting bricks through windows and marching for the national front... not dissimilar to the cartoon of nicolas, in fact
